Selling fish online in Malaysia

Fishermen in Tanjung Dawai have gone the Internet way, auctioning their catches via e-mail.

Bidders from all over the world are welcome to place bids from 3pm to 7pm Malaysian time every day in a system that was introduced in April. In this case, the bidders must bear the transportation costs and the system was set up with the help of the Malaysia Fisheries Development Board.

The Tanjung Dawai Fishermen Association has installed three computers and three 29-inch televisions to display the bidding list.

Bidders state their price by e-mailing to pnktdawai@yahoo. com and their prices will be flashed on the television sets for fishermen gathered at the auction hall. If there is agreement, then the bidders will be emailed. The bidders must register their name with the association (by calling 04-4572106) and a code number will be provided to participate in the bidding.

The system benefited the fishermen as they could get the best deal. The association would impose a 5% surcharge on the buyers and hoping to create its own website one day.

I wonder what kind of fish they're selling? dead or alive? ocean fish for collection or those eatable? Since it doesn't have its own website so how do the people around the world participate in bidding? and I think mostly only big organisation will join this since they can save transportation cost if buy in bulk compare to individual buy one by one.

I think by the time the bidders finish bidding.....and than the auctioner sends those fish to its destination....how fresh would these fish be?
May be they should opt for bidding 'ikan masin' also known as salted fish instead of those fishes.I bet the ikan masin can last the journey to the bidders destination....coz the longer it takes the better the taste would be.hahaha.........

there are some problems need to solve, such as how to keep fishes fresh?when to create own website? but i think it's just matter of time to solve all this problems. actually i see an opportunity, if this idea becomes very successful, other places will follow up- auction fishes then new business model has exist from current situation. buyers and sellers do transactions on internet. with the convenient of the internet, this will only increase efficient and effective for both sides.
