Internet Security Threats - Its Changing Faces

An interesting article on the changing faces of the Internet Security Threats - Lecture 4 (E-Commerce Security)

Among the facts are:
  • Analysts estimate roughly 75 percent of all security attacks are targeted at applications.
  • However, only 10 percent of enterprise security spend is focused on application security. (This show the potential attacks to be encountered by the entreprises)
  • Demand for third-party security management services, as well as for systematic security risk-profiling and management solutions, continues to grow
  • The need to protect applications and data resources more proactively is also driving the development and application of heuristics -- that is, empirical, judgment-based rules for intrusion detection and prevention -- and other forms of artificial intelligence in security products and services.

Security issue is like a never ending war...new technique, same threat. I don't find any fun from this issue. My mind always tells me that people who create threat is also the one who can solve the problem, so what's behind is Money drives their action.(Please correct me if I'm wrong)

You may have your point here.

However, there are also some genuine cases where those hackers and creators are those who want to test their knowledge to the limit by challenging the existing security measures.

Yeah, these people just want to prove their skills and abilities to exploit the securities of websites. Just like the rich kids robbing the bank because they wan to show that they can.

*misuse knowledge and education*

Why they want to use those knowledge, time and money they spent learning those things, but at the end doing things that will eventually get caught ...
They should use it to develop the IT industries and not use it as a marketing tools for wrong purposes.
